is a unique naturalistic gardening business
replacing empty suburban landscaping conventions
with radical home-scale ecological practices.
Our expertise is in the design, installation and establishment of lush, living gardens that invite observation, appreciation, interaction and discovery, and cultivate a sense of wonder. Our designs incorporate whole-system thinking – from capturing and cultivating resources on site, to considering each garden’s specific context in its larger watershed. We plant highly diverse arrays of native, multi-tiered plants to support wildlife. We grow native and nonnative edibles as well as other useful plants to provide sustenance and other resources right at home. We employ maintenance techniques that require minimal interference with natural processes.
We believe in the power of connection to nature and community, and see gardens as catalysts for those connections. You will connect to your garden through leisure and labor. Families can connect with each other through outdoor play and creative projects. Bumper crops and other abundances can be offered to neighbors. There are many rewards to be had from a garden!
Our work is concentrated in the Piney Branch, Sligo Creek and NW Branch Anacostia River watersheds of DC and Maryland.
