KATIE HEFFERNAN is a DC native who has been working with plants since 2005, primarily as a designer of residential gardens. Always keeping a pair of binoculars and a magnifying glass handy, she is rapt by the rich layers of life surrounding us—from birds to invertebrates—and tries to bring as much of that fascination into a project as she can. Her training includes a graduate certificate in landscape design from George Washington University, and the ISA arborist certification and Maryland Master Naturalist courses. Prior to starting Seedhead Cooperative in 2012, she worked for Casey Trees, managing native tree plantings for the District’s RiverSmart Homes program.

WESLEY CORNELL has a confluence of experience in horticulture, agriculture and ecology. He has over a decade of professional gardening experience, ranging from public gardens to private estates and modest home gardens. Wesley is an expert in forest and agro-ecology of the region, with a BS in Natural and Agricultural Resource Management and a lifetime of ecological self-teaching through careful observation. He has worked on and managed farms for ten years, six of which he specialized in organic fruit production. Wesley loves to share his knowledge and passion of native, useful, and edible plants with friends and clients.
